Description

Air Fryer Crispy Mini Blooming Onions are bite-sized onions cut to bloom, coated in a seasoned breading, and air-fried until golden and crunchy, making a lighter version of the classic appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 4 small sweet onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Peel the onions and cut off the top, leaving the root intact.
  2. Place each onion root-side down and make vertical cuts to create a blooming effect.
  3. Gently separate the onion layers to help them bloom.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
  6. Dip each onion into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, making sure all layers are covered.
  7. Lightly spray the onions with cooking spray.
  8. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Place onions in the air fryer basket and cook for 10–12 minutes, until crispy and golden.
  10. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • Re-spray lightly halfway through cooking for extra crispiness.
  • Serve with spicy mayo, ranch, or ketchup.
