Description
Air Fryer Crispy Mini Blooming Onions are bite-sized onions cut to bloom, coated in a seasoned breading, and air-fried until golden and crunchy, making a lighter version of the classic appetizer.
Ingredients
- 4 small sweet onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
Instructions
- Peel the onions and cut off the top, leaving the root intact.
- Place each onion root-side down and make vertical cuts to create a blooming effect.
- Gently separate the onion layers to help them bloom.
- In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
- Dip each onion into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, making sure all layers are covered.
- Lightly spray the onions with cooking spray.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Place onions in the air fryer basket and cook for 10–12 minutes, until crispy and golden.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket.
- Re-spray lightly halfway through cooking for extra crispiness.
- Serve with spicy mayo, ranch, or ketchup.
