Description

A classic, elegant apple tart with thinly sliced apples arranged beautifully over a buttery crust and baked until golden with a glossy, sweet finish.

Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 34 tbsp ice water
  • Filling:
  • 34 apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Glaze:
  • 1/4 cup apricot jam
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Make the crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water until dough comes together. Chill 20 minutes.
  3. Roll dough into a circle and place in a tart pan. Trim edges.
  4. Prepare apples: Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter.
  5. Arrange apple slices in overlapping circles inside the crust.
  6. Bake 35–40 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden.
  7. Heat apricot jam and water to make glaze; brush over warm tart.
  8. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add a sprinkle of almond flour under the apples to prevent sogginess.
  • Use a store-bought crust for convenience.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Add a splash of Calvados or rum to the glaze for depth.
