Description
A classic, elegant apple tart with thinly sliced apples arranged beautifully over a buttery crust and baked until golden with a glossy, sweet finish.
Ingredients
- Crust:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3–4 tbsp ice water
- Filling:
- 3–4 apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Glaze:
- 1/4 cup apricot jam
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Make the crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water until dough comes together. Chill 20 minutes.
- Roll dough into a circle and place in a tart pan. Trim edges.
- Prepare apples: Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter.
- Arrange apple slices in overlapping circles inside the crust.
- Bake 35–40 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden.
- Heat apricot jam and water to make glaze; brush over warm tart.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Add a sprinkle of almond flour under the apples to prevent sogginess.
- Use a store-bought crust for convenience.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Add a splash of Calvados or rum to the glaze for depth.
