Description

A festive pull-apart Christmas tree made with flaky puff pastry, vibrant basil pesto, and melty cheese—perfect as a holiday appetizer or party centerpiece.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup basil pesto
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place one sheet of puff pastry on the baking sheet. Spread pesto evenly over the surface.
  3. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the pesto.
  4. Top with the second puff pastry sheet and press gently to seal.
  5. Cut the pastry into a large triangle (Christmas tree shape), reserving scraps for a trunk.
  6. Cut horizontal strips on each side of the triangle, leaving the center intact.
  7. Twist each strip outward to create branches. Attach a small rectangle at the bottom for the trunk.
  8. Whisk egg with milk and brush over the entire pastry.
  9. Bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use sun-dried tomato pesto for a festive red variation.
  • Add shredded cheddar or Gruyère for extra cheesiness.
  • Serve with marinara or extra pesto for dipping.
  • Best enjoyed fresh and warm.
