Description
A festive pull-apart Christmas tree made with flaky puff pastry, vibrant basil pesto, and melty cheese—perfect as a holiday appetizer or party centerpiece.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup basil pesto
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place one sheet of puff pastry on the baking sheet. Spread pesto evenly over the surface.
- Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the pesto.
- Top with the second puff pastry sheet and press gently to seal.
- Cut the pastry into a large triangle (Christmas tree shape), reserving scraps for a trunk.
- Cut horizontal strips on each side of the triangle, leaving the center intact.
- Twist each strip outward to create branches. Attach a small rectangle at the bottom for the trunk.
- Whisk egg with milk and brush over the entire pastry.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool slightly, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use sun-dried tomato pesto for a festive red variation.
- Add shredded cheddar or Gruyère for extra cheesiness.
- Serve with marinara or extra pesto for dipping.
