Description

A festive layered birthday cake decorated with buttercream frosting and edible bows, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 cups buttercream frosting
  • Food coloring (optional, for bows and frosting)
  • Fondant or modeling chocolate for bows

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  6. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Frost each cake layer with buttercream, stack them, and cover the entire cake with frosting.
  9. Shape fondant or modeling chocolate into bows and place them on top or around the cake as decoration.
  10. Chill slightly before serving for clean slices.

Notes

  • Fondant bows can be prepared a day in advance to firm up.
  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant bow colors without altering texture.
  • For extra flavor, add a layer of jam or chocolate ganache between the cake layers.
