Description
Cajun Firecracker Chicken & Cheddar is a bold, spicy, and cheesy dish bursting with Southern flavor. Tender pieces of chicken are seasoned with Cajun spices, pan-seared to perfection, and smothered in a creamy cheddar sauce that packs just the right amount of heat.
Ingredients
- 2 large chicken breasts, sliced into strips
- 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Chopped green onions or parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Pat the chicken dry and season with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Lower the heat and stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
- Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the creamy cheese sauce.
- Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the chicken.
- Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley and serve hot with rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta.
Notes
- Adjust the heat level by increasing or decreasing the Cajun seasoning or cayenne pepper.
- For a smokier flavor, add a dash of liquid smoke or smoked paprika.
- This dish pairs beautifully with garlic bread or roasted vegetables.
