Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream until smooth, cooking until slightly thickened.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Serve warm over fries or as a dipping sauce.

- Use processed cheese (like Velveeta) for an even smoother texture.
- For a spicy kick, add chopped jalapeños or hot sauce.
- Best served immediately while warm.
