Topped with a buttery breadcrumb crust, it’s an easy, crowd-pleasing dinner perfect for busy nights or family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 cups cooked chicken breast, cubed or shredded
- 1 1/2 cups diced ham
- 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for topping)
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually add milk and cream, whisking constantly until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
- Stir in sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- In the prepared baking dish, layer half the chicken, then half the ham, followed by half the cheese. Repeat with the remaining chicken, ham, and cheese.
- Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the top, making sure it seeps into the layers.
- In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Use rotisserie chicken for a quick and easy shortcut.
- Swap Swiss cheese for Gruyère for a richer flavor.
- Pairs beautifully with a green salad or roasted vegetables.
