Description

This Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole takes the classic flavors of the beloved dish — tender chicken, savory ham, and melted Swiss cheese — and transforms them into a creamy, comforting bake. Topped with a buttery breadcrumb crust, it’s an easy, crowd-pleasing dinner perfect for busy nights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked chicken breast, cubed or shredded
  • 1 1/2 cups diced ham
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for topping)
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  3. Gradually add milk and cream, whisking constantly until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
  4. Stir in sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  5. In the prepared baking dish, layer half the chicken, then half the ham, followed by half the cheese. Repeat with the remaining chicken, ham, and cheese.
  6. Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the top, making sure it seeps into the layers.
  7. In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the casserole.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for a quick and easy shortcut.
  • Swap Swiss cheese for Gruyère for a richer flavor.
  • Pairs beautifully with a green salad or roasted vegetables.
