Ingredients
- 2 cups chocolate cake cubes
- 2 cups canned cherries in syrup, drained (reserve syrup)
- 1/2 cup cherry syrup
- 2 cups chocolate pudding or custard
- 2 cups whipped cream
- 1/2 cup grated dark chocolate
- 1 tablespoon kirsch (optional)
- Fresh cherries for garnish
Instructions
- Place the chocolate cake cubes in a bowl and drizzle with cherry syrup and kirsch, allowing them to soak for 5 minutes.
- In a trifle dish, begin with a layer of soaked cake cubes.
- Add a layer of cherries over the cake.
- Spoon a layer of chocolate pudding or custard over the cherries.
- Add a generous layer of whipped cream.
- Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with whipped cream.
- Top with grated dark chocolate and fresh cherries.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
- Use homemade or store-bought chocolate cake for convenience.
- Kirsch is traditional but optional for a non-alcoholic version.
