Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (75 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 ml) hot water or hot coffee


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  4. Beat with a mixer or whisk until smooth and well combined.
  5. Gradually stir in hot water or coffee until batter is thin and smooth.
  6. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost as desired and serve.
