Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (75 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240 ml) hot water or hot coffee
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
- Beat with a mixer or whisk until smooth and well combined.
- Gradually stir in hot water or coffee until batter is thin and smooth.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost as desired and serve.

- Hot coffee enhances the chocolate flavor.
- Do not overbake to keep the cake moist.
