Description
Easy Swiss Mushroom Melt is a rich and savory sandwich or burger featuring perfectly sautéed mushrooms, melted Swiss cheese, and juicy beef or chicken — a comforting, diner-style classic made simple for any weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 oz (225g) mushrooms, sliced (cremini or button)
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 cooked burger patties, grilled chicken breasts, or toasted sandwich bread
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
- 2 burger buns or sandwich rolls, toasted
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat.
- Add mushrooms and onions, and sauté for 6–8 minutes until softened and golden brown.
- Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook another 1–2 minutes until fragrant and slightly caramelized.
- Top the mixture with Swiss cheese slices and cover the pan for 1 minute, allowing the cheese to melt.
- For sandwiches or burgers: Spread mayonnaise on toasted buns or bread slices. Layer the cooked beef patty or chicken breast, then spoon over the cheesy mushroom mixture.
- Top with the remaining bun or bread and serve immediately while warm and melty.
Notes
- Add caramelized onions or crispy bacon for an even richer flavor.
- Swap Swiss cheese for provolone or gruyère for a gourmet twist.
- Pairs perfectly with fries, onion rings, or a crisp green salad.
