Description
Soft, fluffy donuts glazed with a sweet maple icing, perfect for breakfast or as a sweet treat with coffee.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for glaze)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze, as needed)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix sugar, melted butter, salt, vanilla, eggs, and yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and roll out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into donut shapes with a cutter.
- Place cut donuts on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, and milk until smooth.
- Dip warm donuts into the glaze, let excess drip off, and place on a rack to set.
Notes
- Ensure oil stays at 350°F for even frying.
- You can use maple extract in the glaze for stronger flavor.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
