Description

Soft, fluffy donuts glazed with a sweet maple icing, perfect for breakfast or as a sweet treat with coffee.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for glaze, as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sugar, melted butter, salt, vanilla, eggs, and yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down dough and roll out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into donut shapes with a cutter.
  6. Place cut donuts on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, and milk until smooth.
  9. Dip warm donuts into the glaze, let excess drip off, and place on a rack to set.

Notes

  • Ensure oil stays at 350°F for even frying.
  • You can use maple extract in the glaze for stronger flavor.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
