Description
A classic Italian dessert with a luxuriously smooth and creamy texture, this silky vanilla panna cotta is lightly sweetened and delicately set for an elegant finish.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (480 ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean, split
- 2 1/4 tsp unflavored gelatin powder
- 3 tbsp cold water
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, sprinkle gelatin over cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt.
- Heat gently over medium heat until sugar dissolves and mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Remove from heat and stir in bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved.
- Strain mixture if using a vanilla bean.
- Pour into ramekins or molds.
- Cool slightly, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours until set.
- Serve chilled, unmolded or straight from the ramekin.
Notes
- Do not boil the cream or the gelatin may not set properly.
- Serve with fresh berries, fruit coulis, or caramel sauce.
- Can be made up to 2 days in advance.
