Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Nutella


Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Scoop small spoonfuls of Nutella onto the sheet, forming 8–10 discs. Freeze for at least 20–30 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir gently until just combined—do not overmix.
  5. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium and lightly grease with butter.
  6. Pour a small amount of pancake batter onto the pan, place a frozen Nutella disc in the center, then cover with a little more batter.
  7. Cook until bubbles form and edges look set, then flip and cook until golden.
  8. Repeat with remaining batter and Nutella discs.
  9. Serve warm with powdered sugar or fruit if desired.

Notes

  • Freezing Nutella is essential to prevent it from leaking during cooking.
  • Add banana slices on top for a Nutella-banana combo.
