Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (for brownie layer)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for cookie layer)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (for cookie layer)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. For the brownie layer: In a bowl, whisk melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips. Spread evenly in the pan.
  3. For the cookie layer: In another bowl, cream softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie batter and spread gently to cover.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  6. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
