Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups (440g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm milk
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (120ml) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream (for topping)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1 1/2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
- Spread softened butter over the dough. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle evenly over the surface.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Whisk together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and 1/2 cup heavy cream.
- While rolls are still warm, poke small holes over the tops and slowly pour the tres leches mixture evenly over them. Let soak and cool completely.
- Whip the heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Spread whipped cream over cooled rolls before serving.
Notes
- Allow the rolls to cool fully before adding whipped topping to prevent melting.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle cinnamon or drizzle caramel on top before serving.
- Store refrigerated due to the milk mixture and consume within 3 days.
